RDA

Surely, each vaper has his or her favorite RDA and could clearly list its advantages. However, for newbies, how to select a RDA? In this article, I’ve give my suggestions as to the ways of selecting a RDA.

Step 1: Make sure your real requirements, for example, good flavor or big vapor?

Judging bases:

Flavor-oriented RDAs: small size, small airflow design, and relatively small drip tips, mostly in 510 standard. Vapor-oriented RDAs: big size, broad airflow, multi air slots, and big drip tip.

Overview: First of all, the statement that big-vapor atomizers are unable to have good flavor is false. Yet during actual use, a pure flavor-oriented atomizer could produce the good flavor that big-vapor atomizers could never attain while keeping lower heating value at the same time. When we use a flavor-oriented atomizer to meet our everyday requirements, the smaller the atomizer is, the more e-juices it could save and the slower the battery life will expend.

Step 2: Decide the match of RDAs and output devices.

Judging bases:

1. The matching in size between the atomizer and the mod or box.

2. The matching in color between the atomizer and the mod or box.

3. The harmony in length and appearance between the atomizer and the mod or box.

RDA

Overview: The sizes of atomizers are more and more diversified nowadays, therefore in the process of purchasing a RDA, we need to make clear the diameter of the atomizer. After all it is really embarrassing to equip a 24mm RDA on a 22mm mod.
The natural color of stainless steel could perfectly match with various mods, but for some vapers, it is still unacceptable to install a stainless steel atomizer on a copper mod. Fortunately most RDAs have more than one color for selection, and the customer could purchase according to their own preference.

Generally, almost all RDAs’ sizes are small, but some big-size RDAs like BF99 also exist. If we put these big-size atomizers on boxes like ES40 or ELEAF PICO, it will certainly appear top-heavy. However, different people have different points of view toward “harmony”, thus vapers could decide depending on their own standards.

Step 3: Make clear the output limit of a mod or box.

Judging basis: Make sure that the output device could supply at least 3.7V voltage for the RDA, and many trick coils even require higher voltage output.

Overview: As shown in the picture above, a 50W box’s highest voltage supply for a 0.3ohm RDA is 3.88V; a 80W box’s highest supply is 4.8V; and a dual-battery 150W box’s highest supply is 8V.

Then how to judge the lowest and highest voltage supply of our box? Referring to your product handbook is a good choice. Another more reliable way is to count by yourself, for example, Kennedy atomizer will work best when the resistance is under 0.2ohm, thus we need to count out the power needed under 4.2v using the rating formula before purchasing a mod or box to match the atomizer.

Step 4: The features and choosing of RDAs’ airflow modes.

Judging bases:

Side airflow: The flavor is direct and pure, and the air flows unimpededly.

Top airflow: The inhalation process is a little oppressive, and the flavor is less layered, but there is no possibility of side leaking.

Bottom airflow: The flavor is a little bit rich, but sometimes the e-juice will leak.

Compound airflow: Good adjustability and more variable flavor.

Overview: The choosing of airflow mode is a key link, because different airflow modes will lead to distinctive flavor styles, and the volume of airflow will also affect the dissipation ability and inhalation resistance of the atomizer.

Step 5: How to choose the electrode structure?

Judging bases:

1. The simplest structure for building a single coil: dual-electrode and dual-hole structure.

2. The simplest structure for building two coils: dual-electrode and four-hole or three/four-electrode and four-hole structure.

3. The simplest structure for building four coils: three/four-electrode and four-hole structure.

Overview: The deciding factor of the classification of the above structures is their difficulty of fixing the coils. The simpler the building method is, the more suitable the atomizer is for newbies and common vaper’s everyday use. Surely, as the gradually diversification of atomizers structures, vapers are also able to build multiple coils except for the regular forms above.

Step 6: Is it necessary to be compatible with trick coils.

Judging bases:

1. Are the holes for coils available for trick coils?

2. Will the fixing method of hurt the feet of trick coils?

3. Could the inner space of the atomizer contain the trick coils’ size and heating value?

Overview:

Most RDAs’ coil holes could contain 1.0mm coils, but many trick coils’ diameter is much bigger than 1.0mm, therefore we need to make clear that whether the atomizer we choose could meet the requirement of passing trick coils.
Trick coils are usually made of regular coils, however, many clone atomizers’ screws will break the coils’ feet and lead to the problem of uneven heating. Therefore, it is important to choose the appropriate structure to protect trick coils’ feet. If an atomizer could not contain the trick coils’ size, the cotton will be unable to be properly placed and thus the e-juice volume will be limited. Moreover, if we use high heat trick coils in small tanks, the atomizers’ temperature will also be too high and eventually affect our use experience.

When selecting a RDA, it is impossible to find an atomizer that meet all the above standards. The bases mentioned in this article is only for reference, vapers could pick out the most suitable bases from above as the standards for selecting RDAs.
